Ellen, I love your idea of First Page Friday! If possible, please don’t give it up. As the publishing industry continues to evolve, writers need more help than ever to figure things out and more people with know-how to help them succeed.

Eventually — if my blog reaches enough followers — I may cultivate something similar to your First Page Friday. If I ever do, I’ll certainly credit you with the idea! At the moment, however, I’ll definitely encourage my readers to check it out.

    Have a great weekend!

    Ellen,

I have been enjoying your videos all week. You don’t ramble and say a lot of “ums.” Just the quality I look for in an editor.

      Hi Jana,

Yes, I edit picture books by the hour (rather than by word count). Depending on the book’s needs, it usually takes 1-3 hours. If you email, we can talk more about the details. Thanks!

    Hi Ellen,
I have only just found your abundant and valuable resources. I look forward to catching up on the video series and continuing the blog entries in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, I heartily second the March 7 comment above, and hope you find a way to continue the First Page Friday posts. Your comments there, though specific to the submitted piece, are useful to the general reader as well. I’m reading through all 29 posts and taking notes. Already common threads are emerging as a result.

Honestly, you are inspiring me to forge ahead, to work on the craft, when the effort was otherwise beginning to get the best of me. Good writing does not come easily to me, so I’m voraciously lapping up your knowledge, like a dog at the end of a sprinkler hose. Joy and fun are seeping back into the prospect of writing again. And for that I thank you.

I’m nowhere near a novel yet, but I do have a few shorter works that may be ready for your expert analysis later this summer. Till then, be well and thank you for your many contributions to the writers’ community.

    Andy

      Hi Andy,

Thanks so much! I’m really glad you’ve found my website and videos helpful and that you are enjoying writing again!

I am going to try to continue First Page Friday (but with a few changes) since it has gotten so much support these last few weeks.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your comment! Happy writing!

      -Ellen

Hi, Ellen! I find your site to be very helpful and I really trust and value your opinion. I was just wondering if you plan to take more First Page Friday submissions?

I’ve been working on my first book for a while now and I could really use a professional opinion before I start to query agents.

    Best,
    Danielle Brown

PS. I tried to reach you by email but it got rejected by the server 😦

      Hi Danielle,

I apologize. My email seems to be having problems. I’m not sure why. Some people are emailing me with no problem and others can’t email at all. Very confusing! It’s only been a problem the last couple days, so hopefully it will resolve quickly, so try again!

I do plan to continue First Page Friday, but with some changes. Check back tomorrow morning and you’ll find the details in the blog post. (:

      Thanks!

      -Ellen

Hey Ellen, I just stumbled across your awesome videos on You-Tube. Is there any specific sequence in which these videos should be watched to maximize the benefits? Thanks

Dear Ellen, I came across your YouTube post “How to plot a novel” by mere chance – and am SO glad I did. Very useful, professional hands on advice which helps me a lot with my first timer. Very clear, easy to use for many projects, and pleasant to watch with just the right length of the video! Will start reading your blog now and shall recommend it the soonest possible – which might be a few more weeks unfortunately, but bare with me. šŸ™‚ Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Ellen! I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot – an editor who knows what publishers want (and don’t want) and, on top of it, is giving us this insight for free! What a gift. Since discovering your videos, I’ve stumbled onto more videos about fiction-writing advice, but either they are individuals not familiar with the publishing world, or they just like to hear themselves ramble, which is not helpful. Your advice is not only knowledgeable but so concise and to the point. I really appreciate the effort you put into making your videos efficient. I’ll be a frequent visitor to your website and youtube videos, and maybe I’ll have some “business” we can discuss in the not-so-far future šŸ˜‰

    Thanks again!

    Liz
