Hi Ellen. I had planned to open my book with the main character running away from a mob trying to catch/kill her. Having watched your video I’m now trying to think about how to change this whilst still opening in a similar part of the book. Instead of having her running away from the mob, could I have her hiding from the mob, or is this still a cliche or too inactive for the main character. One of the personality traits of the main character is her constant fear so this scene would instantly introduce that.
I started my story with the character waking up. I thought it was brilliant but now I will go sulk in the corner.
Obviously it is cliche to start with your character waking up (as you have pointed out). What about it starting in the morning? Is that just as cliche? For example, what if the character stayed up all night?
